The Heart of Thanksgiving for Me
For me, Thanksgiving is not about perfection. It is not about the prettiest tablescape or the perfectly timed turkey (although, let’s be honest, when that happens, I feel like I have won a national award).
It is about presence.
Presence with my kids.
Presence with my people.
Presence with the community that has trusted me year after year to guide them home.
It is a day that reminds me why I push so hard the other 364 days of the year. Home matters. Family matters. Creating a life with meaning matters. And I am grateful every single day that my work and my heart are aligned in that purpose.
Real estate in November is a whole vibe.
Deals do not magically stop. Clients still need answers. Lenders still email. And yes, someone will absolutely ask if their earnest money deposit is refundable… while I am basting a turkey.
But here is what I have learned over the years.
Boundaries are a form of gratitude too.
They allow me to show up fully for the people who matter the most.
They allow me to enjoy the holiday instead of resenting the phone in my hand.
They allow me to breathe.
So I prep early, I communicate expectations, and I remind myself that it is more than okay to enjoy a day (or two) away from the constant stream of notifications. My clients deserve my best and my best comes from a place of balance, not burnout.
My kids do not care that it is quarter end. They care that I am at their school feast, or that I am helping with crafts, or that I am home in time to sneak them a dinner roll before they should have one.
So during the holidays, the balance looks like:
- Early morning emails before anyone is awake
- Midday kid activities with my phone turned on silent
- Afternoon showings when needed
- Evenings dedicated to family
- A lot of grace for myself in between
The truth is, I do not strive for perfect balance because perfection does not exist. I strive for presence in whichever role I am in at that moment. And I have learned that my kids do not need a perfect mom. They just need a present one.
Thanksgiving also gives me a moment to reflect on something I do not take lightly.
People choose me and my team to be part of one of the biggest moments of their lives.
That trust means everything to me.
It is the reason late nights are worth it.
It is the reason early mornings do not feel heavy.
It is the reason I can look at the year behind me and feel proud, not just of the wins, but of the way we served people along the way.
And my team at RE/MAX The Collective…
They are the heartbeat behind our momentum. The ones who show up, step up, and support both the business and each other, especially during the busiest time of the year. They make balancing mom life and broker life possible.
After a busy season of travel - Thanksgiving is my reset button.
It is where gratitude becomes tangible.
It is where I am reminded that the most important home I will ever build is the one inside my own walls with my kids, my family, and the people I love.
Real estate keeps me moving.
Motherhood keeps me grounded.
Thanksgiving brings it all together and reminds me, year after year, that I am exactly where I am meant to be.
So from my family to yours,
Happy Thanksgiving. May your home be warm, your table be full, and your heart be grateful.
